Academy of the Sacred Heart

Since 1821, our Mission has been the education and formation of girls to be women of faith and intellect, crusaders for justice, and servant leaders.

Set on 255 picturesque acres in Grand Coteau, Louisiana,The Academy of the Sacred Heart serves girls from 1-year old through 12th grads. It is the idyllic destination for girls to quiet the distractions of busy life and focus on their spiritual, academic, and personal growth and development. For over 200 years, Sacred Heart girls have chosen the Academy as their second home, a place to become confident and compassionate trailblazers; to be leaders, givers, thinkers, and achievers. Our curriculum and entire community are specifically designed to support the growth and development of Sacred Heart girls into strong women of faith and substance. We proudly carry on that tradition, offering a world-view based on the Scriptures and the noble Tradition of the Church.

A Sacred Heart education encourages thinking beyond borders of all kinds. We inspire students to challenge themselves intellectually, think analytically, and value curiosity, inquiry and investigation. Each grade-level curriculum is designed to build the skills of flexible thinking, critical reasoning and purposeful collaboration. Our strong multidisciplinary curriculum is rich with integrated learning opportunities that push our students to apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of cross-curricular ways that extend far beyond the classroom, including an award winning equestrian program.

The Sacred Heart campus enjoys the benefits of a small community while also providing the cultural advantages of an active and urban setting. The quaint and historical community of Grand Coteau is a 20-minute drive from Lafayette, conveniently tucked in between Houston (3hr drive) and New Orleans (2hr drive).

The boarding program welcomes young women in grades 8 – 12 and attracts students from the United States and around the world. These students are academic achievers who have a strong desire to succeed and to contribute to the Sacred Heart community.

The five-day program provides students with an opportunity to reside at school during the week and then go home for the weekends.

The seven-day residential program offers planned activities each weekend. Both programs foster the ideals of independence, leadership and personal responsibility, as well as the building of community.

Send your daughter to the Academy of the Sacred Heart and she will become an integral thread in our woven history of 200 years of Sacred Heart education. She will stand on the shoulders of generations of Sacred Heart alumni who have gone before her, and we will all support and cherish her as she grows into a woman of strength and purpose.
